What is The Great Canadian Giving Challenge?

It is a National public contest to benefit any registered Canadian charity. Every $1 donated to a registered charity on CanadaHelps.org, automatically enters the charity to win a $20,000 donation. Find a charity and donate now

How can an individual get involved?
Any individual can make a donation via canadahelps.org. Every $1 donated is an automatic entry for the chosen charity to win a $20,000 donation (minimum $3 donation required). Individuals are also encouraged to share socially to encourage their friends to participate as well.

How can a charity get involved?
Any charity registered with the Canada Revenue Agency can encourage their supporters to donate – every $1 donated automatically earns the charity a chance to win a $20,000 donation. Find out more download the toolkit for charities here.

Do all donations qualify a charity to win the grand prize?
Only donations made on canadahelps.org will automatically earn the charity a chance to win the prize (including CanadaHelps customizable donation pages and campaigns as well as monthly donations processed during the contest period). Donations of securities, mutual funds, purchase of CanadaHelps gift cards, and donations directed toward CanadaHelps and cause funds are excluded and no contest entries will be generated for these activities.

When does the contest take place?
Challenge begins June 1, 2021 at midnight Newfoundland Daylight Time (NDT) and ends on June 30, 2021 at 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). Draw takes place CANADA DAY, July 1, 2021, and the charity selected as eligible to win will be contacted within approximately 48 hours.

What is the prize?
There is one grand prize of a $20,000 donation awarded to the winning charity.

Are there any fees for the Great Canadian Giving Challenge?
The challenge is a free and open program and there are no fees for participation. Charitable donations made through CanadaHelps are subject to standard CanadaHelps fees which are low, non-commercial rates covering credit card fees and processing.

What is the impact?
In 2019, the fifth annual Great Canadian Giving Challenge, over 109,000 Canadians participated, donating more than $14 million to over 12,000 charities, representing a 25% increase in donations compared to June 2018’s annual Great Canadian Giving Challenge.
